The Ceph Foundation is a directed fund project of The Linux Foundation. Established in November 2018 under the leadership of Sage Weil, founder and chief architect of Ceph, the fund aims to raise, budget and spend funds in support of the Ceph open source project.
SoftIron is proud to be on the founding board of the newly formed foundation, alongside industry heavyweights and we look forward to playing a pivotal role in the leadership and direction of the future development of Ceph, the leading open-source data storage platform that supports scalable object-, block- and file- level storage.
From its’ inception, SoftIron has believed in the undeniable future of Ceph as the premier platform for software-defined storage, and went so far as to custom design and build a dedicated storage appliance, HyperDrive™, that is optimised for Ceph.
“The opportunity to join the governing board is a validation of our leadership in purpose-built Ceph appliances,” says Tim Massey, CEO of SoftIron. “We are proud to be part of an incredible team dedicated to the constructive future of Ceph. In our opinion, Ceph is well on its way to becoming the de facto standard for storage at scale. The formation of the foundation is good news for all of us, and more importantly, our customers, and we can all look forward to a more strategic development path for Ceph which means greater innovation, stability, and support”.
“We’re delighted to have SoftIron as a founding board member of the Ceph Foundation,” says Weil. “It is great to see creative and innovative hardware design to help operationalize storage and unleash Ceph’s potential, and we look forward to working with them to support and expand the Ceph community.”
