The Ceph Foundation is a directed fund project of The Linux Foundation. Established in November 2018 under the leadership of Sage Weil, founder and chief architect of Ceph, the fund aims to raise, budget and spend funds in support of the Ceph open source project.

SoftIron is proud to be on the founding board of the foundation alongside industry heavyweights and we look forward to playing a pivotal role in the leadership and direction of the future development of Ceph, the leading open-source data storage platform that supports scalable object, block and file level storage.

From its inception, SoftIron has believed in the undeniable future of Ceph as the premier platform for software-defined storage, and went so far as to custom design and build a dedicated storage appliance, HyperDrive™, that is optimised for Ceph.

“We’re delighted to have SoftIron as a founding board member of the Ceph Foundation,” says Weil. “It is great to see creative and innovative hardware design to help operationalize storage and unleash Ceph’s potential, and we look forward to working with them to support and expand the Ceph community.”
