Today, we’re really excited to announce the launch of The Ceph Foundation, and our role as proud founding members of the governing board. The Ceph Foundation is a directed fund project of The Linux Foundation and under the leadership of Sage Weil, founder and chief architect of Ceph, the fund aims to raise, budget and spend funds in support of the Ceph open source project.

This really is a defining moment for us, as from the very beginning we’ve backed Ceph 100% as the inevitable winning platform for software-defined storage. We even went so far as to custom design and build a dedicated storage appliance, HyperDrive™, that is optimized for Ceph.

The formation of the foundation is a long-awaited move for those in the industry who rely on the software, and we feel that our appointment to the founding board really validates our position as trusted leaders of the technology in the rapidly evolving arena of software-defined storage.

Alongside other industry heavyweights such as Red Hat, Intel, China Railways, Suse and Canonical, we look forward to playing a pivotal role in the leadership and direction of the future development of Ceph.

“The formation of the foundation is good news for all of us, and more importantly, our customers, and we can all look forward to a more strategic development path for Ceph which means greater innovation, stability, and support,” says Tim Massey, our CEO.
